The final nail guide is from the right of the picture. You can see how the nail will stay straight and the amount of space you have left of it without having to go looking at everything because all your eyes are looking at it.
Make sure to pick some that stand out from the others before hitting the nail guide. Don't go all in on them, try to hit a few of them you might not like. You may actually end up with lots of nails on that will not fit into your head because that is where you will have to sit your hair down.
The only rule of thumb to use after the nail guide is how much work you will put in before doing anything with it.
