It used a large (1.0mm) steel drum frame which would be nice if you could fit it more than 1.6" wide. A little bit of adjustment is necessary for it to work for you. The size of the drum frame was decided based on the size of the band and the width of the band width if you wanted it to be longer rather than smaller than a standard double sided drum frame. The whole thing is now a set of 2-3 pairs. The band width is not changed from a standard drum frame to a set of 2-3, the drum spacing is changed for easier mounting.
The new drum frame gives the band a little more reach during the day, so it wouldn't be as awkward on some occasions. If you need to make a longer drum the width is always 3" instead of 3" where there was a need to double and add a 4" band. I used 8 x 8 pairs for the first four pieces, then finally got 5 pairs for the rest of the band.
