By now, most of all, it's been an impressive six years of great weather for Puerto Rico. For the past four years, the only major hurricanes hit the island. The latest storm to hit the Caribbean, a string of cyclones, is now tied for #1.
Despite this, it was a spectacular event. We have no idea how much of a difference the events of Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Ike actually have; but, from the perspective of hurricanes, those things are so much easier said than done.
The latest hurricane, the Cyclone Hurricane, has already left on its last 10-day path since taking its last extreme dip in October 2012 (though, when considering the damage sustained by Hurricane Ike in May 2016, that may well have been due to a larger event rather than an intentional wind that caused it to miss the eastern coast of the United States). The storm has already left four out of five Caribbean islands in the Caribbean with no official records of the damage done to homes and crops.
While the U.S. National Hurricane Center has confirmed a total of 768 people have been killed in the island nation since the landfall on Sept. 11, Irma has already caused around a dozen deaths, and some of the deaths are directly related to Irma that is heading down the Gulf Coast of Florida.
