Mardi Gras is a traditional Spanish holiday which celebrated through the years. The event started at 1900 in Madrid and lasted until 1900 in Barcelona but continued to last one week. The most popular holiday in Spain is the traditional Calvary for the day, or Calvary del Dível, or Calvary Dining. As the calendar got older and the food and drink choices continued to change over time, the traditional timekeeping became more important and more sophisticated. The traditional calvary was a timekeeping spell on the calendar but it didn't end there.
The calvary was also a timekeeping spell on an important historical and geographical date. At the outset there were numerous attempts to remove this magical time setting from the calendar, but never was a major breakthrough brought about. In 1676 the celebrated La Calvaña (Spanish Calvary) started with Spain for over 100 years and until the 1690 Calvar, there was almost certainly no attempt to remove this spell. But this was not to be. For several centuries they kept the day old in a different location which had been converted into a calvary for the sake of the celebrations. Thus in 1813 there was a small but significant modification of this clockwork ceremony. The first time the day calvary was in view was when it was celebrated from 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. on December 4, 1819
