"The problem is that the game is a very collaborative place, but when you're building a game there's no real sense in what you're trying to do. And sometimes you are able to look at the rules at times, but when it comes to crafting the game, the idea behind it is really important. You should be building in a way that doesn't take things away from people and take away their ability to play."
To celebrate the game's 50th anniversary, the team is launching the IndieGameDev, an early giveaway that invites you to enter into a new, more creative game. The original entry, entitled The Great Dream to create.com's first tabletop, came out just a few weeks ago (along with a $25 prize-buying contest for the game). "When it came to the idea of creating a game based primarily on a board game," Williams says, "I felt like we needed to do something that would make sure we had players feel they were playing our game because of its unique mechanics. It was a very exciting idea … we are proud to hold our first gaming convention to show what is possible in a computer game."
